The UCAR IITA mission is to provide a coordinated and systematic approach to the design and implementation of activities to enhance the UCAR community's capability to provide, locate, access, and facilitate the use of data, information, and software services throughout the institution. An important outcome of the UCAR IITA is that it will NOT replace any of the systems that now provide a broad range of data and data related services. Rather, the IITA goal is to increase coherence among these systems -- as perceived by their users and potential users -- while maintaining high levels of autonomy.

The primary functions of the UCAR IITA program include:

• providing a UCAR-wide view of data and data services
• coordinating real-time data distribution and access
• enhancing the netCDF libraries
• conducting workshops and seminars
